Diversity In Action

Young Conaway evidences its commitment to diversity through its support of, and participation in, recruiting and mentoring programs, associations, and organizations whose mission is to enhance diversity in the legal profession and the community.

Recruiting

   

Delaware Minority Job Fair: The firm is proud to be an active organizational member of the Delaware Minority Job Fair and its Planning Committee. Young Conaway will continue hosting the Job Fair in accordance with its rotational cycle, and has hired associates through the Job Fair. 

 

Lavender Law Job Fair:  As part of its strong commitment to the LGBT community, Young Conaway is a regular participant in the Lavender Law Job Fair.  Hosted by the National LGBT Bar Association and the National LGBT Bar Foundation, the Lavender Law Job Fair provides the opportunity for those in the LGBT legal community to share their knowledge and experiences with other lawyers and professionals.

 

Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section of the Delaware Bar Association: Our firm has a strong relationship with the Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section of the Delaware Bar Association. Over the years, Young Conaway attorneys have held leadership positions in the group. The firm also sponsors the Judge Haile L. Alford Memorial Breakfast, the purpose of which is to honor multicultural leaders in the legal community

   

Widener University School of Law’s JURIST Academy:  Young Conaway sponsors Widener University School of Law’s JURIST Academy, which provides rising college Juniors and Seniors with the opportunity to experience a law school classroom. Participants are also afforded LSAT preparation and information regarding the law school application and scholarship process.

Merit Fellows Program at Howard University School of Law:  This program, supported by Young Conaway, awards scholarships to eligible students up to, and in some cases exceeding, the cost of tuition and fees.

Mentoring

Young Conaway offers a collegial work environment which promotes discussion among partners and associates through both formal meetings as well as informal firm events.  Our associates are encouraged to seek out mentors, both inside and outside of the firm, who can best fit their needs and goals. 

Affinity Groups

South Asian Bar Association of Delaware (SABADE):  Young Conaway is a regular sponsor of SABADE, an Association dedicated to the interests of the South Asian Bar.  This summer the firm was honored to host SABADE's speaker, Kannon Shanmugam, as he provided an Insider’s Perspective on the Supreme Court.

 

National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA):  Young Conaway is a regular sponsor of NAPABA, an Association dedicated to the interests of the Asian Pacific American Bar. Photos taken at NAPABA Annual Conference, Scottsdale, AZ.

   

Women Chancery Court Practitioners Network:  Both Young Conaway partners and associates are members of this group and participate in networking events.  The Delaware Court of Chancery is nationally known for the quality of its jurisprudence on business matters.  Young Conaway is dedicated to upholding the high level of practice expected of practitioners before this Court, and encouraging diversity in perspective when addressing the complicated business matters in litigation.

National Association of Women Lawyers:  NAWL is a national voluntary legal professional organization that promotes the interests and progress of women lawyers.  Our firm encourages both partners and associates to take advantage of the many programs and publications this group has to offer.

National and Mid-Atlantic Black Law Students Association:  The Mid-Atlantic chapter of the NBLSA offers educational and networking opportunities for black law students and attorneys.  Young Conaway is a proud supporter of these initiatives, with the important goal of increased diversity among associates and partners.

  LGBT Section of the Delaware State Bar Association: The LGBT Section of the Delaware State Bar Association was formed to improve the public service rendered by its members in legal matters concerning the LGBT community, to promote the professional development and interests of its members, and to provide education to all members of the DSBA and the Section about legal issues affecting the LGBT community.  Young Conaway attorney Evangelos Kostoulos is Secretary of the Section.

 

Women and the Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association: The Women and the Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association addresses the effect of laws upon women and supports women in the Delaware legal community.
 

   

Minority Corporate Counsel Association: The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) supports the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. Young Conaway is a member of the MCCA's Firm Affiliate Network
