Karen joined Young Conaway in 2003 and has been actively involved in several high-profile patent litigation cases before the District Court of Delaware and also significant corporate and commercial litigation before the Delaware Court of Chancery and the Delaware Supreme Court.
Since joining the firm, Karen has been involved as primary counsel in various intellectual property disputes including UD Technology Corp. v. Phenomenex, Inc. (defense of patent infringement claims concerning chromatography technology), MagSil Corp. v. Samsung Electronics, Co., et al. (defense of patent infringement claims concerning hard drive technology) and Hopkins & Sons, Inc. v. Delaware Moving & Storage, Inc. (defense of trademark infringement claims). Karen has also been involved as primary counsel in various commercial disputes including U.S. Bank National Association v. U.S. Timberlands Klamath Falls, L.L.C. (defense of commercial suit involving claims for alleged breach of indenture, fiduciary duty and fraudulent transfer); Corporate Property Associates 14 Incorporated, et al. v. CHR Holding Corporation, et al. (defense of commercial suit involving claims for alleged fraud and negligent misrepresentation). Karen’s experience also includes numerous Delaware counsel representations in intellectual property and other commercial disputes including cases involving claims of patent infringement, copyright, antitrust and breach of contract.
Karen has also represented numerous pro bono clients. Recently, she was second chair in a civil rights jury trial in the District of Delaware in which the jury awarded the client compensatory and punitive damages. She also has represented pro bono clients in custody proceedings before the Delaware Family Court. Karen received the firm's William F. Taylor Pro Bono Award in 2010.
Karen is a member of the firm’s Hiring Committee, Technology Committee and Business Development Committee. She is also one of the original creators and authors of the first Delaware IP Law blog, www.delawareiplaw.com , which follows recent intellectual property decisions and court news from the District of Delaware.
Karen has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Pennsylvania State University and spent a year as a cooperative eduction student conducting drug discovery research at GlaxoSmithKline. Karen also worked as a law clerk throughout law school for an intellectual property boutique in Philadelphia where she prosecuted patent and trademark applications and assisted in intellectual property litigation matters. She is admitted to practice as a registered patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
