Monté T. Squire practices in all areas of intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, including patent and trademark infringement litigation, trade secret litigation, and commercial litigation involving, for example, contractual disputes and unfair competition. He has handled a wide variety of intellectual property and commercial disputes in federal and state courts. As both lead and Delaware counsel, Monté has litigated patent infringement matters across a broad range of technologies before all of the judges for the District of Delaware, including recent representations involving computer software, Internet technology, biomedical devices, life sciences, semiconductor technology, aeronautical equipment, and mobile navigation technology. Monté has also successfully handled a number of Hatch-Waxman lawsuits, including both ANDA and NDA actions. Monté has technical experience working as a Chemical Engineer for a global petrochemical company.
Monté’s recent trademark matters include cases involving marks in the cable/network television, retail grocery, and horticultural products industries. Recent trade secret matters include cases involving medical diagnostics equipment, memory foam technology, and contract pharmaceutical research.
Monté is a former law clerk to the Honorable Chief Judge Gregory M. Sleet of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. He has also served as Chair of the U.S. Magistrate Judge Merit Review Panel and as a member of the Federal Public Defender Reappointment Committee for the District of Delaware. In addition, Monté was selected as a member of the inaugural class of the District of Delaware’s Federal Trial Practice Seminar.
On a pro bono basis, Monté volunteers as a mentor for high school students interested in the law as part of the DuPont Street Law Diversity Pipeline initiative and as a mock trial coach for the Howard High School mock trial team. He also represents abused and neglected children as a Guardian Ad Litem for the Delaware Office of Child Advocate and serves as a board member for a number of non-profit organizations in the community.
Monté is a member of the firm’s Hiring and Diversity Committees. He is the past Chair of the Delaware State Bar Association Multicultural Judges & Lawyers Section and immediate past President of the Delaware affiliate of the National Bar Association. Monté is also a member of the ABA-IP Litigation section’s Diversity Action Group and presently serves as co-chair of the Diversity Action Group’s Promotions subcommittee.
