Attorneys Helping to Make DE Roads Safer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thousands of deaths occur each year in the United States due to distracted drivers. To bring focus to this issue, Delaware’s Governor, Jack A. Markell, and Lieutenant Governor, Matthew P. Denn, have declared the month of April 2013 to be “End Distracted Driving Month.”
In support of the State of Delaware’s efforts to address this public safety issue, The Delaware Trial Lawyers Association has partnered with attorney Joel Feldman and EndDD.org to help educate Delaware’s high school students about the dangers of distracted driving. Mr. Feldman’s own daughter, Casey, was struck and killed in 2009 by a distracted motorist in a crosswalk during daylight hours.
On Monday, April 8, 2013, Timothy Lengkeek, a partner in Young Conaway’s Personal Injury Section and the current President of DTLA, will be hosting volunteer attorneys from the Association as they meet with, and obtain training from, Mr. Feldman. These volunteer attorneys will then visit high schools throughout the State of Delaware and encourage students to give their full attention to the roadway when they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
“As a personal injury attorney, I often see clients who have been injured by distracted drivers. The DTLA is proud to bring Mr. Feldman’s message to students to help make Delaware’s roads safer for all,” said Lengkeek.
Although the April 8, 2013, training is closed to the public, members of the press are invited to attend beginning at 4:15 pm at the offices of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP, Rodney Square, 1000 North King Street, Wilmington, DE. Opening remarks will be given by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Lengkeek, and Mr. Feldman. A public service video entitled “Just a Few Seconds” will be aired followed by the training session.
