About Temple University Beasley School of Law

Temple University Beasley School of Law opened in 1895 as Temple College’s Department of Law, graduated its first class in 1901, and received accreditation from the Pennsylvania Board of Bar examiners in 1907.  During the 1970s and 1980s, the law school expanded to include “law center” programs focusing on community outreach.  In 1999, the law school included the name of its alumnus and benefactor, James E. Beasley, a legendary Philadelphia trial lawyer who often took on clients who had nowhere else to turn. The Beasley scholarships, together with a dedicated faculty, continue to produce students with exceptional legal skills and a sense of obligation to serve the communities in which they live and practice.
