Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP Launches Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection Practice

August 25, 2015Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP is pleased to announce the formation of a practice team focused on cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection matters. As data breaches have increased in frequency and severity, protecting confidential information requires businesses to evolve from merely taking prevention measures to thoughtful planning designed to mitigate the consequences when an incident occurs. The Young Conaway practice helps clients develop strategies to manage the risks of data-security incidents and prepare their businesses to quickly and effectively respond to, mitigate, and recover from events.

“We’ve been addressing data-protection issues across a variety of contexts for our clients for several years,” said Sara Beth Kohut, co-chair for the team. “Our attorneys support businesses at every stage of the process, whether that’s planning to reduce and manage risk or dealing with the aftermath of an information-security incident.” Young Conaway’s team includes experienced litigators from multiple practice areas who can assist clients in preventing or successfully navigating any lawsuits and regulatory actions which might occur when confidential data is breached. “Our depth and variety of industry experience enables our team to address each client’s unique data-protection issue,” said Jim Lennon, who will also chair the practice. “Whether that involves drafting policies and procedures, or advising the board on their fiduciary duties, our attorneys have the depth and skills to meet those needs.”

“Young Conaway prides itself on working hand-in-hand with clients to understand the challenges they face and address and improve upon all aspects of their business. We are proud that we have become one of the leading firms helping and advising businesses and boards of directors as they develop strategies to protect valuable assets and comply with legal and fiduciary duties,” said firm Chairman James L. Patton, Jr. “This team is a natural extension of our legacy into the cyber-era, where confidential information ranks among an entity’s most valuable assets and businesses face an evolving set of challenges associated with technology and its pervasive effects.”
