June 17, 2025Press Release

Wilmington, DE – June 17, 2025

Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP is proud to announce that our esteemed colleague and partner, William “Bill” Johnston, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Kimmel/Thynge Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Award. This prestigious honor, presented by the ADR Section of the Delaware State Bar Association, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of ADR in Delaware.

The Kimmel/Thynge ADR Award was established to honor the legacies of Morton Richard Kimmel and Magistrate Judge Mary Pat Thynge, both of whom were instrumental in shaping ADR practices in Delaware. Previous recipients include Judge Vincent A. Bifferato, Sr., Kathryn J. Laffey, Judge Kevin Gross, Judge Joshua W. Martin III, David A. White, Yvonne T. Saville, and the award’s namesakes.

With over 40 years of legal experience, Bill has transitioned from a distinguished advocate to a full-time professional neutral. His work as a mediator, arbitrator, and court-appointed neutral has earned him national recognition, including appointments to the Commercial and Consumer Arbitration panels of the American Arbitration Association and designation as a Distinguished Neutral with the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR). He also is a Fellow of the Academy of Court-Appointed Neutrals (ACAN), is a member of the Board of Directors of ACAN, and serves on the governing Council of the American Bar Association’s Section of Dispute Resolution.

Bill’s dedication to ADR began early in his career, inspired by his clerkship with Chief Justice Daniel L. Herrmann of the Delaware Supreme Court, a pioneer in ADR education. Throughout his career, Bill has served in various ADR roles across Delaware’s courts and commissions, including the Superior Court’s mandatory arbitration program, the Bankruptcy Court, and the Delaware State Human Relations Commission.

A Past President of the Delaware State Bar Association and former Chair of its ADR Section, Bill continues to lead by example in promoting the values of fairness, efficiency, and collaboration in dispute resolution.

Please join us in congratulating Bill Johnston on this well-deserved honor.
