In Memoriam Hon. John T. Dorsey

April 15, 2026Press Release

It is with profound sadness and a sense of loss that the Young Conaway family learned of the passing of our friend and former partner, the Honorable John Dorsey.  Following a distinguished career in private practice and public service – including working directly with then-Senator Joe Biden – John joined Young Conaway in May 2003 to lead its restructuring and bankruptcy litigation practice and become the Firm’s first General Counsel.  John’s impact on our work was immediate and long-lasting.  John was a fearless and unflappable litigator whose talent for understanding the best angle for the client was unparalleled.  But more than that, John was a mentor and role model to Young Conaway’s up-and-coming litigators and trusted friend to his partners and colleagues.  John was as fearless in life as he was in the courtroom, often described internally as “the most interesting man in the world.”  “As remarkable as Judge Dorsey’s career at Young Conaway was, his time as a jurist for the Delaware Bankruptcy Court puts him among the most distinguished and accomplished restructuring professionals of our time.  John’s impact on the law and bankruptcy practice in Delaware simply cannot be overstated,” said Young Conaway Chairman Bob Brady.  Together, we mourn with his wife Sylvia, his children Christina and Ben, and his granddaughter Nora.  John’s memory will forever be a blessing.
