Bowser, Holt and Russell Attend Annual Conference of the Employers Counsel Network

Young Conaway attorneys Bill Bowser, Scott Holt, and Lauren Russell attended the annual conference of the Employers Counsel Network (ECN) in New Orleans. The ECN is a group of top law firms with top notch labor and employment lawyers from every state in the U.S. Young Conaway has been a proud member of the ECN for about 20 years.
The ECN provides Young Conaway with ability to provide our clients with top notch advice and representation regardless of what state a legal issue may arise. The annual membership meeting provides us the opportunity to network with these attorneys as well learn more about emerging legal issues.
The annual meeting featured presentations on free speech rights in the private sector; preparing the workplace for natural and man-made disasters (hurricanes, shootings, etc.); marijuana and its challenges for employers; an update on the Trump administration's labor and employment efforts; and harassment and the #metoo movement.
One highlight of the Conference was a presentation on media relations from Sally-Ann Roberts, an anchor at WWL-TV in New Orleans for 26 years and big sister and bone marrow donor to Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts. A skilled communicator, Ms. Roberts asserted that it is often not enough to win in courthouse. It was necessary to win in the court of public opinion. She provided seven "B's" to success with the press: Be prepared; Be proactive; Be truthful; Be compassionate; Be clear; Be succinct; and Be on message.
