Bowser Quoted in HR Daily Advisor, "Long-Awaited Supreme Court Decision Strikes Down Union ‘Fair Share’ Fees"

June 28, 2018In The News

Bill Bowser was recently quoted in the ezine HR Daily Advisor about the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision, Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. The case involved an employee of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services who objected to being required to pay fees to a union the employee didn’t belong to and didn’t want to support. The Court ruled 5-4 that requiring public-sector workers, who do not want to join a union, to pay a portion of union dues violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Mr. Bowser believes Janus is a “landmark opinion that will require immediate action by all public-sector employers to ensure legal compliance and to avoid liability for improper withholding of fair-share fees.” A copy of the ezine article entitled "Long-Awaited Supreme Court Decision Strikes Down Union ‘Fair Share’ Fees," is available below.
