Bankruptcy Paralegal

Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP, the second largest law firm in Delaware, with its headquarters in the heart of Wilmington on Rodney Square, is looking for an experienced Bankruptcy Paralegal to join its dynamic Bankruptcy section and its close-knit team of like-minded para professionals.

The Bankruptcy Paralegal will work with and provide support to the attorneys representing debtors, creditors, committees and other parties in large Chapter 11 cases in Delaware and other jurisdictions.  The Bankruptcy Paralegal will draft legal documents; prepare daily docket paper flow; file documents with the courts (including appellate courts) through the CM/ECF system; monitor statutory and other important deadlines; maintain critical dates calendars and coordinate schedules; prepare hearing and trial materials, including hearing agendas and binders; and communicate with other parties in interest.  

This is an hourly full-time support staff position (7.5 hours per day/37.5 hours per week), with overtime to be expected and compensated accordingly.

Duties and Daily Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining computer proficiency with all applications required by the job
  • Working collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals and other staff to ensure our clients and co-counsel receive superior service and attention
  • Assisting with new case filings, working closely with others as appropriate
  • Preparing, drafting, e-filing and serving documents
  • Assisting counsel with hearing preparation, etc.
  • E-filing using CM/ECF in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and in certain other courts, including outside Delaware
  • Communicating with co-counsel and creditors
  • Assisting with preparation and e-filing of petitions, resolutions, first day pleadings and drafts
  • Coordinating with other professionals and clients to prepare exhibits and documents to be filed
  • Preparing fee applications and related materials
  • Maintaining case and critical date calendars and working group lists
  • Working closely with attorneys and staff (including in other practice groups) on matters related to bankruptcy cases
  • Performing searches on various databases and case dockets

Requirements:

  • College degree and at least three years of a bankruptcy paralegal experience
  • Flexibility and availability for overtime
  • Familiarity with local rules of various courts
  • Proficiency in e-filing using CM/ECF in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, U.S. District Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet overlapping deadlines and deal with interruptions and time constraints
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and independently

Commercial Real Estate Paralegal

Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, a large Delaware law firm with its headquarters in the heart of Wilmington on Rodney Square, is seeking an experienced commercial real estate paralegal to work with attorneys on a wide variety of commercial real estate matters, including those related to commercial financing and conveyancing.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position (7.5 hours per day), with flexibility as to the exact schedule.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review lenders’ commitment letters and websites for details of transaction and closing requirements
  • Prepare closing checklists – must be able to work with tables (used for checklists and other lists)
  • Draft and revise documents for purchase and sale, loan, and lease transactions
  • Communicate with clients and counsel outside of and within the firm, to clarify terms of transactions or for information needed to draft documents
  • Use XpressDox program to draft documents
  • Review organizational documents of parties to transactions
  • Review purchase and sale agreements and other documents for information
  • Use Secretary of State and Recorder of Deeds websites in various locations to obtain information on properties and their owners, and obtain copies of recorded documents
  • Search borrowers’ websites for information on property
  • Review property title commitments and title exception documents
  • Order title searches, prepare title commitments and final title policies
  • Record documents electronically, occasionally by hand delivery or mail
  • Prepare closing binders using Binder Project pdf program, scan documents if hard copies are received
  • Follow up for post-closing items, missing documents, final title insurance policies
  • Review property record plans/drawings to obtain information (for example, to determine location of utilities)
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of time spent on various matters
  • Copy, scan and import documents into document management system, send documents by email, overnight delivery services, certified mail, and hand delivery
  • Adjust to changing conditions, workload, procedures and duties

Candidates should possess excellent drafting/writing skills, strong technology skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and superior attention to detail.

Commercial Litigation Paralegal (Part-Time)

Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor is seeking motivated and experienced candidates with strong technology aptitude and an interest in technology and litigation to fill a part-time Litigation Paralegal or Legal Assistant position in our Commercial Litigation section.  The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 3:00 or 4:00 pm-7:00 pm, for a total of 15-20 hours per week.  The position has opportunity for substantial growth.

Qualified candidates will have strong technology aptitude and skills, proficiency (or aptitude to gain proficiency) with court filings (especially through PACER), MS Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; will be highly motivated, organized, dependable and have excellent attention to detail; will possess demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and work both independently and as part of a team. 

Additional requirements for the position are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree (for a title of Paralegal) or Associate’s degree (for a title of Legal Assistant). Alternatively, must be on a path to a degree in college;
  • Previous litigation experience strongly preferred;
  • Excellent technology skills and aptitude;
  • Motivated self-starter, with ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Superior attention to detail and proofreading skills, organizational skills and good judgment;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines;
