Norman M. Powell to Make Two Presentations at American Bar Association Business Law Section Annual Meeting
Partner Norman M. Powell will be in Chicago for the Business Law Section Annual meeting to occur during his three-year term as Chairman of the Uniform Commercial Code Committee. In addition to hosting a Committee Meeting, a Leadership Meeting, and a Committee Dinner, Mr. Powell will participate in two CLE programs:
Gotcha: Traps for the Unwary, will be presented Friday morning, September 18 by the Business Law Education Committee. Mr. Powell and Tom Rutledge (Stoll Keenon, Louisville, KY, Chairman of the LLCs, Partnerships and Unincorporated Entities Committee) will jointly present a discussion based on their paper, "Traps the Unwary: Epic Lawyer Fails Under Business Entity and UCC Law and How to Avoid Them."
Weapons of Mass Harassment: Dealing with Fraudulent UCC Filings, will be presented Friday afternoon, September 18, by the Uniform Commercial Code Committee. Mr. Powell, Paul Hodnefield (Associate General Counsel, CSC, Roseville, MN, Co-Chairman, Task Force on Filing Office Operations and Search Logic), and Rebecca Longfellow (Director, Business Services Division, Indiana Secretary of State, Indianapolis, IN) will discuss the growing volume of fraudulent UCC filings, the steps taken by some states to address them, and the legal and practical issues presented by both the “problem” and the “cure.”
