As of the bankruptcy filing date, the company employed approximately 5,278 people in the United States and Mexico and another 1,637 people worldwide through its non-debtor affiliates. Its highly leveraged capital structure, which required interest payments of approximately $20 million per year, began to generate serious liquidity issues for the company prior to its bankruptcy filing. The company confirmed its chapter 11 plan of reorganization in May, 2002.
